Driftaway, created in 2014, is a Brooklyn based roaster catering to those who want more than just a fresh cup of coffee. This subscription caters to those looking to develop their palette and further educate themselves on coffee. Their story starts with a simple wedding gift, an espresso machine and grinder.
Their new wedding gifts led Anu and Suyog to experiment with various coffee drinks such as cortados and cappuccinos. While becoming more educated on coffee, they became more particular about the type of beans they consumed as well as its roast date. Finally, after moving back to Brooklyn and not finding many fresh quality coffee suppliers, they decided to start their own business.
We were highly impressed with all 4 coffees in our tasting kit as well as our 1st doppio shipment. Our doppio shipment, from Columbia, had bold tasting notes of dark chocolate, cherry and lemongrass. This coffee received 5 stars from us. It had a smooth finish and paired well with just about anything. We strongly recommend sticking to the Doppio if you are an avid coffee drinker or like us and go through a bag in just a few days.
Purity Coffee is far from an average company. Their story, unlike many others, focuses on the health benefits of coffee and how they overcame certain health issues by drinking coffee. By conducting extensive research, learning from the experts at The Vanderbilt Institute for Coffee Studies and recruiting some of the best people in the field, they were able to create Purity Coffee. You can read their entire story here.
They offer monthly whole bean subscriptions, coffee pod subscriptions and pre-paid subscriptions. Their whole bean subscription starts at $19 a month for 1 bag and you have the option of ordering up to 4 bags or a single 5lb bag. Their prepaid subscription starts at $108 and you can choose 1 to 4 bags, delivered in 6 or 12 shipments. The coffee pod subscription starts at $17 per box and you can order 1, 2, 4 or 8 boxes of pods (each box has 12 pods).
So, after reading tons of articles about Purity Coffee and getting sucked into all the health benefits, we gave this coffee a try. Unfortunately, it hurts my soul to say we didn't enjoy this coffee as much as we thought we would. The coffee was smooth but it didn't make us do the happy dance we normally do when we sip our pour over. We really wanted to love this coffee, after reading about how much research and dedication went into creating it but maybe we'll feel differently after we give it another try.
Based in Philly, Reanimator Coffee Roasters offers several options for coffee lovers. Among those options are single origin, blended and instant coffee. Yes, I said instant coffee. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why in the world would a roaster offer instant coffee? Well, I will tell you from experience that their instant coffee, from Swift Cup, is nothing like what you may have tasted before. This dehydrated, freeze-dried coffee will change the way you view instant coffee. (Review Coming Soon)
Reanimator has 3 different subscription options, including single origin, blends and decaf. They are available in 10oz, 2lb and 5lb bags and you can choose how many bags you want. Their single origin features their roasters choice. Their blend options consist of the Foundation blend, Keystone blend or Telemetry blend.
I received their single origin, Ethiopian coffee. This coffee was perfect and was easy to pair with a variety of small plates. I loved how smooth it was. If you are new to drinking your coffee black, you will find this easy to enjoy at any time of the day. I found out that not only does the Gera Estate produce an amazing Ethiopian Coffee but they also provide free housing, education, clean water, health care, and more for all of their employees.
